Each week as I drive to KC and back to stay with my dad for the weekend my dogs accompany me. I have a Boston terrier named Molly who loves life. She is full of energy, life and adventure. She loves life on the farm but enjoys her trips to see grandpa too.
We drive 3 hours to pick up grandpa and then another 45 minutes to his home. By the time we get there she is ready to run and be free. That much time in the car can be hard for anyone to take.
Molly jumps from the car, runs to the top of the stairs in a flash and then waits for the door to be opened only to run to the back door to go outside and wait some more for me to open it. She is so excited to get outside and see what there is to experience.
Freedom is an amazing blessing. Are you enjoying the freedom you have in the Lord as much as Molly enjoys the freedom of running free?
Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. Gal 5:1(msg)
When you think of a harness of slavery what comes to mind? The longer we live the more challenging it can be to let things go. Changes in life can leave us with habits that draw us back to a place where we put back on that harness of slavery.
Sometimes I give up my freedom by putting back on the harnesses of my own expectations, guilt, or even anger. Living free is so much better. I don’t know why I don’t choose to take every harness to my Lord and let Him take it on and free me. That is why He came to this earth, to take it all for me.
The passage goes on to tell us how to live in freedom?
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. Gal 5:13-15(NIV)
These verses make it very clear that we must live in love for one another. I’m not sure why is seems so difficult to live in love. Showing love for those around us who are willingly walking in sin is a challenge for me.
Are we walking around with our own harnesses on and calling out for others to drop theirs? Some sin is more easily seen than others but sin is still hanging us up from the freedom He called us to.
The next time you are feeling the harness of slavery think about Molly running with all her might into the yard, enjoying freedom, run just like her to our Lord and let Him give you His freedom! Living in unrestrained freedom is just what God has planned for us.
